The International Conference on Variational Methods and Nonlinear Partial Differential Equations, jointly sponsored by our School of Mathematical Sciences and the Academy of Mathematics and System Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was successfully held in Cloud from June 10 to 12. More than 300 experts, scholars and graduate students from many countries and regions, including Jiang Song, Director of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Zhang Ping, Academician of the Academy of Mathematical and Systematic Sciences of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Du Yihong, Member of the Australian Academy of Sciences, and Wei Juncheng, Member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Sciences, attended the event.

At the opening ceremony on the morning of 10th, President Professor Yan Xiaohong and academician Jiang Song delivered speeches one after another. President Yan Xiaohong introduced the development of the university and the construction of the School of Mathematical Sciences, and expressed his warm congratulations on the conference and sincere thanks to all the experts and scholars for attending this conference. Academician Jiang Song introduced the theme and content of the conference in the context of the development of nonlinear generalized functional analysis in China, and considered that variational methods and nonlinear partial differential equations are the current research focus and hot spot. Dean Zhang Zhitao presided over the opening ceremony.

During the three-day conference, 22 renowned experts from home and abroad - Professor Li Yanyan of Rutgers University, Professor Gui Changfeng of the University of Texas at San Antonio, Professor Liu Zhaoli of Capital Normal University, Professor Ma Xinan of the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Zou Wenming of Tsinghua University, Professor Jiang Meiyue of Peking University, Professor Xu Lu of Hunan University Prof. Xiong Jingang, Beijing Normal University, Prof. Wei Juncheng, University of British Columbia, Prof. Wang Zhiqiang, Utah State University, Prof. Yan Shusen, Huazhong Normal University, Prof. Peng Shuangdi, Huazhong Normal University, Prof. Zhou Feng, East China Normal University, Prof. Guo Yuxia, Tsinghua University, Prof. Wang Jingang, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Prof. Li Haigang, Beijing Normal University, Prof. Wang Kelei, Wuhan University, Australia Prof. Yihong Du from University of New England, Prof. Yuan Lou from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Prof. Hwa Chen from Wuhan University, Prof. Wan Tong Li from Lanzhou University, and Prof. Junping Shi from College of William and Mary, USA, gave their reports at the conference. They exchanged the latest research results and academic developments on the topics of variational methods, elliptic equations, parabolic equations, other nonlinear partial differential equations, dynamical systems, biomathematics and mathematical modeling, and had extensive academic discussions.

This conference is an important academic event in the field of variational methods and nonlinear partial differential equations, and the conference was successfully closed at noon on June 12 with a complete success! The conference strengthened the connection between Chinese mathematicians and international counterparts, and provided a platform for learning, communication and cooperation for leading talents, young talents and graduate students from international and domestic mathematics fields, which is of very positive significance to promote the scientific research on nonlinearities, to promote more innovative scientific research results, as well as to strengthen the construction of mathematical disciplines in Jiangsu University and to improve the level of scientific research and theoretical innovation.
